Counter-Offer (12-07-09)
The terms of the counter-offer were so ridiculous, they were almost funny. The seller wanted to rent the house back from us, for a ridiculous price, and for an indefinite period of time. So, we rejected her counter-offer.
That's something my real estate agent suggested when I was trying to buy my house- because we had no guarantee that the owner would vacate the property until they bought another place. She wasn't comfortable closing so soon. I thought it was a generous offer, she'd have a place to stay until she found somewhere... but looking back on it, she'd purchased the place for 85,000 less than I was offering, which meant her monthly payment was LOW compared to what I'd ask for in rent, so no wonder she turned it down.
